[REVIEW] beatmaniaIIDX15 DJ Troopers

Release Date: December 18th, 2008
Developer: BEMANI
Publisher: Konami C.E.T. of Japan
Genre: Rhythm Game / Music

The 12th Home Console release of beatmaniaIIDX has finally hit the shelves in the Island of the Rising Sun, Japan, and it brings far more then the normal bag of tricks to be expected with your Guitar Heroes and Rock Bands.

Hailing as the oldest and longest running Rhythm Game to date, IIDX15 DJ Troopers wowed longtime fans of the series which had long felt comfortable with the norm of this franchise adding in fresh concepts, difficulties and a new boss structure to ‘troop’ around the landscape of this game.

A new feature added into DJ Troopers is the addition difficulty known as “BLACK ANOTHER”. This is a difficulty so hard that even the more experienced players find themselves failing songs which they would normally have beating with an AAA.

With this the game still provides the same experience for new players just picking up the Keyboard to Hardcore Gamers wailing away on their DJ DAO decks, http://www.bemaniasc.com. The staple modes exist and this time around the Rivals are that much more competitive.

2nd Thought:
This game is the definition of addictive. Most players starting playing because of a friend or someone they know plays it. It’s not very newcomer friendly. It has the steepest learning curve of any Rhythm Game on the market and demands it be the only game you play when you are playing it. For most people they either have a friend that plays the game and they listen to the music or wait to buy the song track. Then their are the hardcore players like myself whom own two of the 480$ DJ DAO Decks and play it almost everyday. Just know you will not be playing level 5+ your first sitting. If you want to play it without having to make a giant purchase for the Arcade Style Controller you can purchase the US Konami Style Controller for 30$. When you start playing go straight to beginner so you can get a feel of the controls.

I don’t see how IIDX has “innovated” moreso than Guitar Hero and Rock Band. They took the same IIDX concept, added a difficulty, they added some songs, they threw it all together in a pretty box, and sold it.

That kinda sounds exactly like what Harmonix and Neversoft have been doing with their franchises. Am I wrong?

I’m importing it this coming Sunday \o/
